Spanish speakers in the US

In case you missed it, the number of people who speak Spanish in the US is on the rise. This is in addition to the rise in the number of Hispanics.

“Of the 60.6 million people who spoke a language other than English at home in 2011, almost two-thirds (37.6 million) spoke Spanish” reported NBC Latino in an article about census results. It’s important to note that “The percentage speaking Spanish at home grew from 12.0 percent in 2005 to 12.9 percent in 2011.”

According to a story in HispanicPRblog, “The child population in Texas has grown faster than most of the other states in recent years and the percentage of Hispanic births have outpaced the state at-large.”

This is not actually news to me, but it might be to others.
