Become a Non-Certified Firefighter Trainee

The Houston Fire Department is Hiring Non-Certified Firefighter Trainees!

The Houston Fire Department announces an upcoming civil service exam for non-certified firefighter trainees. Interested individuals do not need a firefighter or an emergency medical technician certification to apply.

The training is divided into several components and is approximately 38 weeks in length.

Minimum Requirements are:

  • Must be at least nineteen (19) years of age when applying and less than thirty-six (36) years of age before receiving the oath of office
  • Applicants must have sixty (60) transferable college credit hours with a grade of “C” or better
  • OR at least (2) years of full-time active military service with an honorable discharge as stipulated on a DD214 Member

The Civil Service Exam is scheduled for Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at 9 a.m. at the George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Avenida De Las Americas, Houston, Texas 77010. The position posting will close on February 12, 2013.
